Experienced intermediate to Advanced Level
Mark will introduce you to important tools and studio work habits.
Topics could include: ink, gouache, colour, guide lines, working on black, erasing mistakes, honing nibs, cutting quills, tipping book dedications, appropriate script, layout, etc. If time allows, the course will conclude with an overview to a contemporary approach to Italic.
This is an excellent opportunity to bring your tools, share with others and ask questions of a master calligrapher and graphic artist.
Mark is a founding member and past President of the Calligraphic Arts Guild of Toronto. Mark received his formal training at the Arts & Craft School in Basel, Switzerland. Over the years, he has furthered his writing skills attending numerous classes with international instructors. Although he worked in the gravure printing industry as a colour retoucher for close to 40 years, calligraphy remained his passion. He has taught his own calligraphy classes in Toronto and neighbouring Ontario cities for 45 years. Mark continues to execute commissioned work, calligraphic cards/art and has worked for several films.
Students are expected to bring:
Writing materials and tools will be introduced and discussed in class. The calligrapher may already own a range of tools. For the purchase of any equipment or materials Mark will provide guidance to individual needs.
