This will be an energetic variation of Carolingian. Together we will trace it’s lineage back to standard Carolingian to see how it was transformed. In this on-line course, you will learn a unique wide bodied script with a variation of body height and slant named Version # 6. This script is useful for headings, envelopes and almost any kind of splashy things you would want to create!
For the past three decades Reggie Ezell has been one of the most influential teachers of calligraphy in North America. He has taught his extended studies courses: “26 Seeds – a Year to Grow”, ‘Primitive to Modern”, and “Materials of a Saint John’s Bible” in virtually every big city in the United States and Canada.
Reggie has taught at more than 20 international Calligraphy conferences and at the Loyala University and the Newberry Library of Chicago. For the last four years he has been teaching on line. His artworks are in public and private collections throughout United States and have appeared in Letter Arts Review, Bound and Lettered, and numerous books of calligraphy.
Reggie has produced a series of instructional calligraphy DVDs and portfolios available through the major mail order calligraphy suppliers. Hundreds of his videos appear on the Reggie Ezell Channel on YouTube.
1 1/2 mm nib (Brause or Tape) or #3 Mitchell with reservoir or C-4 Speedball nib
bottle of gum arabic
writing fluid of your choosing (If you are using ink I would highly recommend Moon Palace Sumi.)
mixing brush (optional)
dropper & water
pad of calligraphy paper (8 squares to the inch)
pouch of gum sandarac (optional)
the handouts that you have printed out for yourself for this session.
In the handouts there are two identical pages of writing lines. You will want to copy these onto a paper that is good for calligraphy: Arches watercolor hot press 90 lb, or Rhodia, or Triomphe, or any favorite of yours that will run through a printer.
After registration is confirmed students will be provided with handouts and information. Reggie has shared a video on how to well prepared for a zoom on-line course.
Some experience with a broad edge pen and / or the Carolingian Script
